When reliable support was needed for countertop overhangs, Federal Brace answered the call. But what about the lengthy corner protrusion when two adjacent overhangs about? The resulting overhang at the corner was once difficult to fully support with braces that could only mount to the flat surface of the island wall. Reinforcement on corner countertop overhangs needed to be addressed.

Federal Brace introduces the Anthem Hidden Overhang Corner Support and the Ashbury Low Profile Corner Bracket. These braces are designed to install on the corner of your island or peninsula to deliver much needed support to the corner overhang. The Anthem matches the look of our other hidden supports such as the Freedom and Liberty brackets while giving up to 17” of support to the overhang corner. The Ashbury borrows its style from the very popular low-profile Brunswick countertop brackets, while delivering up to 24” of overhang support on the corner.

Selecting countertop support sizes is simple. They obviously can not be longer than your overhang, and cannot leave more than four inches of unsupported countertop. Selecting a countertop support for a corner overhang is a little more complicated, especially if the overhangs have different depths.

We created a useful tool to help you select the proper supports. Please note that this tool can only be used when the corner angle is 90 degrees. All measurements are in inches.

To determine the length of support for a corner countertop overhang needed using the Corner Bracket Tool:

1. Identify your countertop overhang depths.

2. Select the shorter overhang depth of the two.

3. Use this value to determine the overhang depth outward from the island corner to the edge of the countertop overhang (or corner if both overhang depths are the same).

4. Select a countertop support that will fit under the overhang. Unsupported overhang should not exceed 4”.

   

To determine overhang depth and unsupported corner overhang depths by bracket using the Corner Bracket Tables:

1. Identify the bracket and the corresponding table.

2. Select the shorter overhang depth of the two.

3. Overhangs with enough allowance for the bracket will be listed; locate your overhang depth within the Bracket Table. If your overhang size is not listed, then the bracket is too large or too small for this application.

4. Corresponding to the Acceptable Overhang Depths will be the depth of unsupported overhang; the distance from the end of the corner support to the edge of the countertop.
